Why can't the Arizona (or federal) justice system go directly to carrying out Jared Lee Loughner's execution?

In cases like his, there is mountains of evidence that clearly show he is guilty. The fact that he was apprehended WHILE he was shooting at people. My opinion is he should be publically executed, and his parents should be forced to watch.
